Memorandum of Understanding between LJMU & Tadulako University

LJMU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tadulako University at a ceremony held at the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (CMP).

The MoU will see LJMU, in particular CMP, facilitate the training and development of academic members of staff of Tadulako University.

This marks the beginning of collaborative partnership between the two universities in the area of research and human resource development. This includes possibilities for Tadulako University faculty members to pursue postgraduate study at LJMU in addition to joint research and training between the universities.?

Signing the Memorandum of UnderstandingThe current Rector of Tadulako University, Professor Muhammad Basir Cyio, headed the delegation consisting of Professor Syahir Natsir Haming (Vice Rector for Administration and Finance), Professor Mery Napitupulu (Head of International Office), Professor Mahfudz (Chair of Advisor and Consideration Board), and Professor Anhulaila Muhaiya Palampanga (Chair of Professor Board). Tadulako University is located in Palu, the capital city of Central Sulawesi province, Indonesia. It is the only state university in the province.

The delegation toured the teaching and research facilities within CMP and visited the research centre, PROTECT, where they were shown a demonstration showcasing current progress and achievement in the area critical infrastructure protection research.

Professor Muhammad Basir Cyio commented, "This visit has encouraged us to make LJMU as our main university partner in the UK in the future. We will direct our academic staff with Mathematics or Computer Sciences backgrounds to pursue postgraduate study at the LJMU School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. This is especially relevant to us since we have just started a new programme in Information Technology in our Faculty of Engineering.

"The hospitality shown by Professor Diane Meehan and Professor Madjid Merabti is beyond what we had hoped for. Every member of the delegation expressed their pleasure with the experience and considered the visit as the most memorable and most remarkable visit to a foreign university we have had. We are also glad that we have gained so much valuable experience during this visit.

"The encouragement and support from Professor Madjid Merabti has provided us with the motivation to make LJMU as the main destination for postgraduate study for our staff in the UK.?

"Lastly, as the Rector of Tadulako University, which currently employs 1,158 academics and is a host to 25,761 students, and on behalf of the entire academic community in Tadulako University, I would like to thank and express our gratitude to the Dean, the Head of School, Dr. Sud Sudirman and the rest of the staff members at the School."

Professor Diane Meehan added, "It was a pleasure for me to welcome the visitors from Tadulako University to LJMU and that we are looking forward to developing our relationship further."

The MoU was signed by Professor Muhammad Basir Cyio and by Professor Diane Meehan on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. The signing was witnessed by Professor Madjid Merabti and Professor Mery Napitupulu.
