It?s with great joy that we welcomed the following new members during the month of February: David and Lauren Cooper joined us by Transfer. David is a native of Albemarle?a graduate of Albemarle High School and Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science. He is employed with Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood. David enjoys sports?and especially enjoys watching his beloved Carolina Panthers and Carolina Tar Heels. Lauren is also a native of Stanly County, graduating from North Stanly High School and currently studies nursing at Stanly Community College. She enjoys the nearby Lake very much?and enjoys those activities (and shopping!) with her friends. David and Lauren are at home at 132 College Street in Norwood (704-984-3351). The Coopers are newlyweds (married on August 13, 2011) and were sponsored by the Herrins ? Randy, Mandy, Natalie, Whitney, Marshall ? and Ben Hesley.
Martin and Connie Efird joined us by Profession of Faith. Martin and Connie are both natives of western Stanly County and have both retired back to this area: Martin had a career with Celanese and Connie in Real Estate. They have three grown children and 7 grandchildren and spend a lot of their spare time with these grandchildren! Martin is also very active with Senior Games and enjoys hunting. Connie is enjoys crafts and quilting, cooking, reading and is currently enrolled in our Bethel Bible Study. The Efirds are at home at 5271 Woodrun on Tillery in Mt. Gilead (704-351-4409). They were sponsored by John and Gloria Bowers.
The Faulkenberry family came to First Church during the past month: Josh and Brooke both joined by Profession of Faith. Josh is a native of Stanly County, a graduate of North Stanly High School and served in the US Army. He currently serves with the Department of Homeland Security. Josh enjoys hunting and fishing?and his family! Brooke is a native of St. Petersburg, Florida and is now the Property Manager at Edgewood Place Apartments in Albemarle. She enjoys her children very much as well! Their three children all joined by Holy Baptism: Connor James is a 1st grader at Millingport Elementary. He has been very active in our Wednesday Programs for Children and at First Church?s Cub Scout Pack 82. Hailey Makenzie has just turned three and is just beginning with the church programs on Wednesday. And the youngest child, Cadence Elizabeth, will be two in November. The Faulkenberry family is at home at 32520 Laton Road in Albemarle (704-438-7992).
Michael and Paula Hastings came to us as well: Michael by Profession of Faith. He is a native of Massachusetts and is employed by Quemby Auto in Albemarle. Michael enjoys woodworking and a good game of pool. Paula is a native of New Jersey, and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Gloucester, NJ. She is employed with Time Warner Cable in Charlotte and enjoys bowling and coaching youth league bowling. The Hastings are newlyweds as well?they were married on August 14, 2011 and have Paula?s two children who joined as well: Rebeka Dorton joined us by Profession of Faith. She is an 8th grader at Albemarle Middle School where she enjoys playing volleyball in the fall and soccer in the spring. She also is a very good bowler. Taylor Dorton is a freshman at Albemarle High School where she enjoys playing volleyball. She too enjoys bowling very much. The family is at home at 920 Wood Street in Albemarle (704-322-9334) and were all sponsored by Anne Futterer.
Sue Halterman comes to us by Transfer from St. Mark?s Lutheran Church in Oakland, MD. Sue is a native of the Annapolis, MD and is a proud graduate of West Virginia University (a family tradition!)?and also has a graduate degree in her field. She is an Application Specialist with Toshiba American Medical Systems and enjoys her horses very much?as well as tennis, volleyball and golf. Sue has two children: Jaclyn who is a recent college graduate and Kristin who is a junior at WVU. Sponsored by Ron and Nancy Bryant, Sue has already become very active in our chancel choir?and is at home at 371 Tradition Drive in Mt. Gilead (910-439-1272).
Lindsey Marie Lowder came to us by Holy Baptism. She has been very active in our A2J Program (High School/Middle School Youth) as well as Sunday Church School?and will be going on our Summer Mission Trip this July. Lindsey is a junior at Albemarle High School where she?s been a member of the Swim Team and Volleyball Team. She enjoys singing very much (and has shared her talents with us on Sunday Morning at the 8:30 Worship Service). Lindsey was sponsored by her parents, Sonny and Pat?by our DCE Kim McGowen, and she was joined at the service by her brother and many of her friends. Lindsey also felt a special closeness that morning to Katelyn Watts?a cousin of hers who is now deceased. Lindsey is at home at 338 E. Main Street in Albemarle (704-982-8508).
The Raynor Family joined us during February: Tami is a native of High Point, attended high school in Guildford County and is a graduate of North Carolina State University (undergraduate) and the Medical College of Georgia (Physician?s Assistant). She is a PA with the Health Departments of Montgomery and Randolph Counties. In addition to spending time with her two children, Tami enjoys golf and traveling. Her daughter Madalynn is a 7th grader at Park Ridge Christian School. Madalynn is very active in our A2J programs as a middle school student, and also enjoys her friends, gymnastics and her horses. Tami?s son, Ford?is a 3rd grader at Park Ridge Christian and is very involved with our Wednesday Programs and handbells. He loves music, soccer, basketball and baseball?and plays all of them! The Raynor family is at home at 1743 Southpoint Lane in New London (336-461-3613) and was sponsored in membership by the Waisner family.
Sherry Warner also joined us by Transfer. She is a native of Rockingham?attended Richmond Senior High School (where she was a classmate with Pastor John, Anne and Rosemary Lovin)?and then attended Wingate and East Carolina University. Sherry is a teacher at Candor Elementary School and enjoys swimming, boating and aerobics. She has one grown son and a daughter-in-law and is at home at 10423 Willow Oak Road in Norwood (704-779-9305) She was sponsored by Robert and Rosemary Lovin.
