Whozthecat triumphs in thrilling FSB Care Handicap ? Horseracing News
Whozthecat won a thrilling race at Doncaster despite not being the favourite to succeed. His victory earned his camp a cash prize of ?8,409.
There were some decent runners attracted towards the FSB Care Handicap but the best odds were given to Mississippi. The track was extremely quick, so the chances of an upset were very less.
However, Whozthecat surprised his rivals, winning the race by a nose distance. He gained an early advantage over the other stallions, which helped him finish at the front. He was in the lead right after the traps were opened and the distance to cover was just six furlongs, which meant that he did not have to worry about the stamina.
Despite that, the winning horse came under immense pressure towards the final moments of the race and it appeared that Mississippi would end up claiming victory.
Luckily for Whozthecat, he was the one ahead in the end and his camp was delighted with the outcome.
According to the winning trainer Declan Carroll, ?I was stood on the rail and we were definitely headed, but our horse must have come back and we're delighted. It's great for Simon (Bean, owner) as he's a local man and it's the first horse he's owned outright.?
Talking about the future plans of his challenger, Carroll said, ?The plan is to go to the Curragh on Irish Derby day for the big six-furlong handicap there. We can all look forward to that.?
It will not be easy for Whozthecat to deliver a similar result in the Irish Derby, as there will be some strong challengers up against him. Even if he manages a top-five finish, it will be great achievement for him. He has got plenty of time to prepare for the major event and it will be interesting to see how he handles pressure.
The six-year-old gelding has got plenty of experience and there will be a lot of expectations from him. His strike rate is not good at all, so he will need perfect conditions in order to make his team proud in the upcoming events. The bookies and bettors will be keeping a close eye on his training sessions from now onwards.
